    David Reid


    David Reid was appointed Non Executive Chairman of Tesco PLC in April 2004. He is also a non-executive director of Reed Elsevier Group plc and Chairman of Kwik-Fit Group.

    He was appointed Finance Director of Tesco PLC in November 1985 and subsequently also took responsibility for IT, Distribution and Business Development.

    From June 1996 to December 2003, David Reid was Deputy Chairman with responsibility for Business Development, Strategic Planning and the International Operations in Central Europe, Asia and the Republic of Ireland.

    During his time at Tesco, David Reid has held non-executive directorships at Westbury plc, Legal & General Group plc and De Vere Group plc.

    He was President of the food industry trade association, IGD, for the years 2005 and 2006. He is Patron of the charity, Caravan. He is Deputy Chairman of the Seoul International Business Advisory Council (SIBAC), and a member of the China Development Forum. He is a member of Scotland International.

    David Reid is a member of the Strategic Investment Group (SIG) for Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW).

    He qualified as a Chartered Accountant (Scottish Institute) in Aberdeen and began his professional career with Peat Marwick Mitchell in 1970, based in Paris, where he worked for three years. He then joined Philips Industries where he held various positions over six years before becoming Chief Accountant of Philips Video. He then joined BAT Industries in 1979 as Group Financial Controller of their UK retail group, and subsequently was appointed Finance Director of International Stores Limited. After six years with BAT, he joined Tesco in April 1985.

    David Reid has been awarded Honorary Degrees, Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Robert Gordon University and Doctor of Laws (LLD) at Aberdeen University,
